The only thing more suspect than being alone in a bar on a Friday night is being a woman alone in a bar on a Friday night. Add to that, writing in a journal and you have cause for questioning.
"You look a little suspicious," said a young white male, mid-20s, smiling.
"Yeah, I guess so," I replied, not explaining myself. I sipped my beer and went back to taking notes and recording my reaction to the sounds on stage at Zaphod's Beetlebrox in the Ottawa Byward Market.

Seismic is an ever-evolving group of musicians and singers for the past 6+ years who have crossed genres and worked in that space reserved for multi-diciplinary groups and who own talent to the point that they infuriate critics they can't label them.
-- They sound like club music, but they are doing this live -- vocals are solid -- rock-hard -- no faltering at all. They breed atmosphere, ambiguity and yet clarity. No stress -- very jazz sounding -- has undertones of The Mexicana from Babe -- God, these guys are really amazing -- their sound is dirty enough to be real and yet clean enough to cut through and they're real enough to be dirty -- Jesus -- they're pulling off 7/8 time -- Imagine going from a jig to a reel in jazz-funk style -- from 4/4 to 6/8 -- cool. Songs about freedom, second chances and lifestyle or life with style --
"The drummer sucks so we put him on guitar," a voice said. These guys and gal are too good for this bar, no offense, Eugene, you'd probably agree. I can barely keep up with the rhythms. Would someone please discover them now?
